ICP monitoring workshop
The workshop will allow attendees to learn about the fundamentals of intracranial pressure, its monitoring, shunt systems and clinical applications - extremely valuable knowledge for anyone interested in a career in neurosurgery or neurology!
Teaching will be led by Mr Ahmed, an ST6 in neurosurgery, as well as Dr Krivankova, an ST1 in neurosurgery, both from NHS Lothian.
Spinal fixation workshop
The workshop will allow attendees to get some practical experience with spinal fixation, learn about the equipment required and how to use it, and gain an understanding of the process; valuable learning for aspiring surgeons!
Teaching will be led by Mr Phil Copley and Mr Gabriel Metcalf-Cuenca, neurosurgical registrars at NHS Lothian.
Craniotomy and Burr Hole Workshop
Participants will have the chance to practice drilling burr holes using realistic equipment, enhancing their practical skills and knowledge. Whether you’re interested in neurosurgery or neurology, this workshop offers a realistic and interactive experience.
The session will be led by Mr. Gabriel Metcalf, Neurosurgery Registrar at DCN Edinburgh. Don’t miss out on this unique learning opportunity!

Interested in paediatric neurosurgery? Then we are thrilled to present the third event of our Careers in the neurosciences lecture series! Join us for an inspiring lecture on a career in paediatric neurosurgery by Lawrence B. Daniels, M.D.
Dr. Daniels is the director of the New Neurons Neurosurgery institute in New Jersey, USA and is a frontrunner in research in areas such as paediatric neuro-oncology and craniofacial disorders.
Dr Novara is a general paediatric neurologist at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital, with special interests in epilepsy, headache and stroke. She serves as UAB Child Neurology Residency Programme Director, teaches at Heersink School of Medicine at UAB and was recently promoted to Associate Professor! Her research interests lie in quality improvement and simulation education.
We are honoured to have Dr Novara speak to us about paediatric neurology. She will cover what a career in Paediatric Neurology involves, her special interests and research within the specialty. Furthermore, she will discuss the challenges, opportunities and rewards of the job!
